Position Description: 

LSNV is seeking to hire a staff attorney who will focus on public benefits and health-related matters. The attorney will assist families and individuals who have been denied, terminated from, or had reduced benefits from programs such as Medicaid, food stamps (or SNAP), and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), as well as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security. The attorney will also work as part of a team the mission of which will be to improve access to health care for low-income adults by assisting with access to Medicaid benefits and enrollment in health coverage. The position will be based in our Manassas office and will provide services throughout the Northern Virginia area.
Essential Functions (include but are not limited to):
• Demonstrate strong litigation and administrative hearing skills
• Demonstrate strong public speaking skills
• Conduct outreach and community education
• Attend office and other program meetings and read professional materials and other communications which are related to the job
• Maintain general knowledge of substantive area

Requirements: 

The ideal applicant will possess a demonstrated commitment to public interest work and a strong desire to assist indigent applicants. Further, the ideal candidate will have the following:

• Virginia State Bar membership (required)
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Experience working on legal issues commonly faced by low-income individuals (preferred)
• Bilingual ability (English plus either Spanish, Korean, or Arabic) (preferred)
