Position Description: 

About the Position: ALWAYS attorneys represent vulnerable children and young adults, and survivors of human trafficking. Our practice areas include family law cases involving abuse or trafficking; orders of protection; immigration (SIJ, DACA, T, U, and VAWA); and addressing past criminal and juvenile history. The successful staff attorney will be a mission-driven professional who enjoys working as a jack-of-all-trades as part of a small, compassionate team. The positions require a schedule of 30-40 hours per week.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
-Conduct screenings and intakes to assess eligibility for ALWAYS services;
-Provide direct legal representation in a variety of practice areas including immigration (DACA, SIJS, U and T visas), family law (legal decision making, parenting time, child support, orders of protection), and addressing past criminal history (set asides, fingerprint clearance card good cause exceptions);
-Inform clients of victim rights and assist with victim compensation claims;
-Staff on-site clinics at in-state social service provider and partner locations;
-Provide brief advice/referrals to people who are ineligible for ALWAYS services;
-Screen cases for appropriate placement with pro bono attorneys;
-Provide training and presentations;
-Assist in furthering advocacy initiatives by participating with local and national stakeholder networks and peer organization representatives to move policy reform and service support systems
-Other duties as requested based on organizational needed

Requirements: 

-Two positions available. One requires fluency in English and Spanish.
-A U.S. law degree (J.D.) and admission to practice law in Arizona
-One position requires a minimum one year of experience, and one requires five or more years.
-Commitment to social justice and the advancement of opportunity for vulnerable young people and victims of crime
-Strong organizational skills for professional/timely case management
-Regular travel is required to partner offices and courts and immigration offices, with a valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation (mileage is reimbursed)
-Ability to communicate empathetically with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, including survivors of trauma
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with colleagues

Salary range: 
$55,000-$62,400 annually, depending on years of experience (based on full-time schedule)
