Position Description: 

Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) seeks a qualified candidate to fill an AS/LA position whose primary responsibility will be to support the work of the Housing Unit.

The AS/LA will be responsible for performing a wide variety of legal assistant work in support of staff members to include, but not limited to: coordinating all aspects of the weekly housing clinics including, preparing appropropriate documents and being the primary contact for clients; assisting in fielding all calls from reception or the Eastern Regional Legal Intake program (ERLI) for emergencies and making appropriate recommendations; Reviewing and accepting cases as referred by ERLI, including conducting conflict checks; Interpreting for staff and translating documents as needed; preparing unit related documents, forms, and materials, as requested by staff members; composing letters, forms and routine legal documents; and organizing relevant material for use in legal proceedings. Other responsibilities will include: working with case management data base, photocopying, scanning, preparing mail, providing administrative support to case handlers and students, conducting client intakes, answering phones, screening calls, scheduling appointments, organizing and maintaining filing and legal tickler systems, and performing related duties as described in the Administrative Secretary/Legal Assistant job description.

Requirements: 

Requirements include: Experience working in an office environment; excellent computer and office system skills, including documented proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel; ability to type a minimum of 55 wpm, ability to maintain confidentiality, ability to multitask effectively, good organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to work well under stress; a self-starter who can also work appropriately as a team member, excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to proofread the work of self and others with a high degree of accuracy. Spanish fluency required.
