Position Description: 

POSITION: The Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP) is seeking a highly qualified staff attorney for its Washtenaw County office. The staff attorney maintains a caseload that includes both direct service and impact work in the areas of housing, public benefits, elder and consumer law. The staff attorney also engages in community relations work, including legal information presentations and agency collaboratives. This position is located in our new office in downtown Ypsilanti.
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM), a program of MAP, has been providing services to low-income individuals and families for over 50 years. LSSCM’s mission is to provide high quality free civil legal assistance to our most vulnerable populations, with an emphasis on homelessness prevention, domestic violence and elder abuse prevention, and assistance in accessing health care, food, and needs-based income programs. We are the Legal Services Corporation and state-funded civil legal aid provider in southern and central Michigan, covering 13 counties including Washtenaw County. Visit and for more information.


QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should be licensed to practice law in Michigan, qualified to be admitted by waiver, or able to take the next Michigan bar exam. Applicants must possess excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills as well as a demonstrated commitment to serving low-income individuals and underserved populations. Legal aid and/or litigation experience is a plus.

Salary range: 
Salary is from $44,000 depending on experience and includes excellent benefits. MAP is a unionized program.
