Central West Justice Center (CWJC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Community Legal Aid, seeks an attorney who will assist clients with cases involving public benefits issues, including TAFDC, EAEDC, SNAP (food stamps), MassHealth, and Emergency Assistance shelter. The advocate will be based in CWJC's Springfield office and will assist clients living in various parts of western Mass. In addition to handling cases, the advocate will engage in community outreach and education. Some grant reporting will be required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Admission to Massachusetts Bar, or eligible to sit for next Massachusetts Bar examination, or entitled to practice under a Massachusetts practice rule. Fluency in a second language, especially Spanish, strongly preferred. Experience advocating for low-income clients seeking public benefits and/or other administrative agency advocacy experience, including law school clinical experience, strongly preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. A demonstrated dedication to social justice, sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse backgrounds, and commitment to working with low-income communities.
