Position Description: 

The St. Frances Cabrini Center for Immigrant Legal Assistance department at Catholic Charities is seeking qualified Bilingual Staff Attorneys for its Unaccompanied Children Legal Assistance Program (UCLAP).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

We are looking for energetic attorneys who are committed to advancing justice for immigrants and in particular migrant children fleeing violence and civil strife in their home countries. The individual that fills this position will be responsible for:

Provides legal assistance to unaccompanied children in detention and upon their release in state courts and immigration proceedings.
Supervises legal assistants and paralegals in the provision of legal assistance to the unaccompanied children.
Coordinates referral internally across units or externally with other legal services providers.
Performs client intake interview.
Conducts community outreach and education on issues affecting unaccompanied children.
Manages a robust caseload in a fast-paced environment.
Provides regular reports on cases, issue trends and statistics for grant reporting purposes.
Provides technical assistance to pro bono attorneys.
And, performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

J.D. from an accredited law school.
Licensed to practice law in Texas and is in good standing, or be eligible to take the next available Texas Bar or be able to be admitted as an out-of-state attorney.
*If not licensed in Texas, candidates can be hired as Fellows until they have passed the Texas Bar and are eligible to become Staff Attorneys*

MINIMUM SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Proficiency in English and Spanish (speak, write, read) is required.
Immigration and Family Law experience strongly preferred.
Experience working with low-income immigrant community preferred.
Strong organizational skills, ability to maintain significant caseload, set priority, multitask and work under pressure and competing demands.
Proficiency in basic computing skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, email, database.
Demonstrated multi-cultural sensitivity and skills.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must have reliable transportation, valid Texas driver’s license and valid vehicle insurance
Position requires frequent driving in personal vehicle and/or Agency vehicle to include freeways and highways to satellite offices, job fairs, and offsite meetings and events, throughout the 10 counties Catholic Charities serves from Galveston to Richmond and surrounding towns as needed.
Must be able to work on a flexible schedule as needed to meet work, program and project deadlines.
