Position Description: 

Human Resources Director responsibilities: Under supervision of the Executive Director, deliver comprehensive HR service to Legal Services, through: 

Employee relations: Help to maintain a positive work environment and foster high morale; respond to employee workplace questions or concerns, disciplinary issues and grievances. 
Performance management: Coach Managers on performance management issues and processes, including coordination of annual employee appraisal process. 
Training: Identify and implement organization-wide training including:
Continuing legal education
Employment law policies
Company policies 

Hiring process: responsible for advertising, recruitment process, and onboarding of new employees. 

Benefits management: knowledgeable on key areas of benefits management including:
Medical Insurance, HRA and FSA plans: Evaluate policies, onboard and off board employees, and provide COBRA notifications.
Oversee administration of FMLA requests.
Retirement plans: Employee enrollment, notifications, TPA and investment adviser oversight for 403(b), and 401(a) plans. o Maintain records of attorney CLE in compliance with MO Bar requirements. 
Organization Insurance Evaluate coverage and oversee renewals for all liability and Worker’s Comp insurance. 

Library management:
Distribute staff-provided case summaries, library acquisitions and periodical circulation.
Review and renew legal research subscriptions. 

Facility management:
Prepare and update LEP Plan and Disaster Plan annually.
Assists employees with interpreter and translator questions and problems.
Oversees office facility placement of staff.

HR attorney-at-large responsibilities:
Ensure organization’s compliance with employment laws and regulations
Ensure all company policies and procedures are up to date and in line with current employment law in both the Operations and Employee manuals

Oversee program legal ethics and malpractice claims, including advising program staff on legal conflicts and legal ethics issues, and reporting to malpractice carrier for incidents and claims o Provide legal advice to Executive Director on various aspects of Employment law.

Requirements: 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS  Excellent people skills. Ability to work collaboratively with others. Energetic and committed to legal aid mission. Very organized and accountable. Takes initiative. Able to quickly adapt and prioritize multiple demands on time. Sound judgment including strict confidentiality regarding highly sensitive matters. Good communication, presentation and listening skills.  Practicing attorney for 3+ years. Specializing in employment law is a major plus.  Human Resources experience: at least 5 years required  Understand Missouri labor and employment codes/law  Experience in a legal services or other non-profit environment preferred  Computer proficiency in MS Office programs  Salary and Benefits Information: Salary commensurate with experience.
