Position Description: 

St. Frances Cabrini Center for Immigrant Legal Assistance of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is seeking an experienced immigration Bilingual Senior Attorney to provide high quality legal assistance to families separated at the border under the "zero tolerance" policy.

The attorney will provide zealous advocacy to clients in immigration removal proceedings and engage with a community of immigration advocates to move for systemic change and advance social justice. The attorney will work under the supervision of a managing attorney in collaboration with the legal team at Cabrini.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

Coordinates legal orientation, conducts in-depth screening and intakes for clients;
Provides direct representation to immigrants before Texas state courts, USCIS, Asylum Office, Immigration Court in proceedings related to the client's removal proceedings;
Supervises Legal Assistant(s), Paralegal(s) and other Attorney(s);
Stays up-to-date on immigration and state court practices as they pertain to immigration;
Prepares and provides training, and mentoring to pro bono attorneys, volunteers and interns;
Complies with data and reporting requirements;
And, performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school required
MINIMUM SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum 2-3 years of experience practicing immigration law before the USCIS and the EOIR;
Experience working with detained adults and unaccompanied children a plus;
Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and is in good standing;
Experience supervising a team of lawyers and paralegals;
Excellent legal research and writing skills;
Fluency in written and spoken Spanish required;
Experience working with immigrant community an asset
Demonstrated multi-cultural understanding and experience
OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must have reliable transportation, valid Texas driver’s license and valid vehicle insurance
Position requires driving in personal vehicle and/or Agency vehicle to include freeways and highways to satellite offices, job fairs, and offsite meetings and events, throughout the 10 counties Catholic Charities serves from Galveston to Richmond and surrounding towns as needed.
Must be able to work on a flexible schedule as needed to meet work, program and project deadlines.
