Position Description: 

The Center for Children’s Advocacy (CCA) has an opening for a full-time staff attorney with our innovative Mobile Legal Office (MLO). The Center is a non-profit legal organization dedicated to the enhancement of the legal rights of poor children. The MLO employs legal services, training and system reform advocacy to help children and youth who are experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness. For more information, see our teen-friendly website: speakupteens.org. This position is based in CCA’s Hartford office.

The MLO attorney will:
• Provide legal consultation and representation to youth and young adults who are experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness.
• Provide outreach to youth in the Hartford area through the Center’s Mobile Legal Office, bringing legal services to community locations.
• Work collaboratively with case managers to ensure youth are connected to appropriate services.
• Provide legal rights training to youth and community providers about the legal rights of youth experiencing homelessness.
• Respond to legal questions from school systems and community providers about supporting youth experiencing homelessness.
• Produce legal information materials for youth and community providers.
• Collaborate with community organizations to bring information and legal services to the target population and receive information from the target population in order to advocate for systemic change.
• Identify systemic issues impacting the target population and engage in system reform advocacy, including litigation, administrative advocacy and legislative advocacy, as necessary.

Requirements: 

Candidates must have:
• A passion for working with youth
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• CT Bar membership or admission pending

Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and are within the general range of salaries for public interest organizations.
