Organization: Bay Area Legal Aid (BayLegal) ensures fairness in the civil justice system for the most vulnerable members of our community. Position: We seek a culturally sensitive attorney with a strong commitment to public interest and social justice advocacy to become the Supervising Attorney of the Health Consumer Center based in Oakland. The Supervising Attorney will be responsible for the direct supervision of staff case work; and ensuring that clients receive high quality legal services with issues involving access to health care and health access benefits for low-income residents.

Responsibilities: As a member of BayLegal’s management team, the Supervising Attorney will report to the Managing Attorney of the LAL/HCC. This position will work with the Managing Attorney, focusing on the focus on the day-to-day support of the attorneys in the LAL, including legal work supervision, professional development, mentorship and evaluation, and compliance with grant deliverables and project goals. The Supervising attorney will provide direct client services as appropriate. With the Managing Attorney, the Supervising Attorney will engage the unit in periodic/annual reviews of unit priorities and emerging issues in the client community. The Supervising Attorney also ensures the unit’s participation in relevant local, regional, and statewide taskforces and policy advocacy efforts that further the interests of our HCC client community and access to healthcare generally. The Supervising Attorney also helps lead relationship building, partnership and collaboration with local court, government and community agencies to maintain social safety net for low-income residents.

Compensation and Benefits: Compensation is based on a competitive public interest salary scale. Experience and Education: Juris Doctorate Degree, active California Bar membership, and three or more years practice as a licensed attorney with direct service experience, particularly in the unit's primary substantive area; experience developing projects and leading a diverse team.
