Position Description: 

The Statewide Advocacy Support Unit of Maryland Legal Aid announces an immediate opening for a full-time paralegal in the Community Lawyering Initiative (CLI).

Description: The paralegal provides support for Maryland Legal Aid’s Community Lawyering Initiative and works directly with clients, community partners, and fellow CLI team members. Duties include, but are not limited to, responding to current and potential client inquiries via telephone and email, scheduling pro bono and staff attorneys for clinics, and maintaining all CLI program client files. The paralegal attends CLI clinics, assists with transportation of equipment to clinics, sets up computers and printers, completes client intake at clinics, and reviews clinic files for accuracy. Additionally, the paralegal assists with communication with community organizations and other partners, reporting of outcomes to partners and funders, maintaining statistical data regarding clients served, and identifying possible new partners. The paralegal may be asked to perform other duties, as assigned, within the scope of the essential functions of the position.

Requirements: 

Minimum Qualifications: Must have proficient written and communication skills sufficient to perform the duties of the position, solid computer skills, and experience with Microsoft Office products. Excellent interpersonal, communications and organizational skills required. Flexible in terms of working some evenings and weekends as needed. Have access to a car for travel to clinics, meetings, and other activities.
