Join the Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA) and become part of an energetic team of advocates that provides life changing legal services to address the critical issues that significantly impact the poor. NLSLA’s work includes litigation, training, policy advocacy, technical assistance, and community education.

NLSLA is currently seeking for a Paralegal to work in the Pasadena Self-Help Access Center. The temporary Paralegal/Intake Screener works collaboratively with staff attorneys and to interview self-represented people to provide individuals with educational materials, information and assistance regarding civil court issues, including, housing and family law.

Position: Temporary Paralegal/Intake Screener

Availability: Open Immediately

Compensation: Salary $28,000 + - Commensurate with experience. Excellent Benefits which include: choice of medical, dental, vision; life and disability insurance plans; 125 plan; 403(b) with employer contribution, bilingual pay supplement, sick and vacation pay, and 13 employer-paid holidays.

Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for screening and prioritizing legal assistance to over 100 individuals daily. Will assist Staff Attorney in supervising and training volunteers.

About NLSLA: NLSLA is one of Los Angeles County's leading public interest law offices and has been the primary legal aid program serving the cities of Burbank and Glendale and the San Fernando and Antelope Valleys for more than 50 years and the city of Pasadena and San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys since 2001. The NLSLA staff of 120+, including 50 lawyers, provides legal assistance to low-income individuals, families and groups in the areas of family law and domestic violence, housing, health care, education, public benefits, economic and job development, immigrant rights, consumer rights and environmental justice. The NLSLA headquarters is located in Glendale, CA with branch offices in Pacoima, Boyle Heights and El Monte.


Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates must have one of the following: (1.) paralegal certificate or (2.) B.A. or B.S. degree with 1 year experience working in a law office or other legal setting under the supervision of a licensed attorney. Computer literate in MS Word and the ability to learn other software programs, including Essential Forms and Publisher required. (3) Four years of paralegal experience (or equivalent) in the areas of family and housing strongly preferred. Working knowledge of court forms and court procedures required. Must have excellent organizational, administrative and writing skills. Ability to work well in a busy environment, enjoy working with the public and working collaboratively with a small staff. Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.– 4:30 p.m. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish required.
