Position Description: 

The Federal Public Defender is accepting applications for the position of Investigator for its Davenport, Iowa office. The Federal Public Defender, a branch of the United States Courts, operates under authority of the Criminal Justice Act, 18 U.S.C. 3006A, to provide defense services in federal criminal cases and related matters in the federal courts.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Investigator assists criminal defense attorneys by locating people, evidence, and personal property; conducting interviews, gathering records, photographing crime scenes and evidence; reviews and analyzes discovery and other case documentation, maintains filing and information reference systems and writes comprehensive descriptive reports on work completed. The position may require exposure to some dangerous situations.

Requirements: 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent with a minimum six years of investigative experience, to include three years general experience and three years specialized experience utilizing the skills essential to this position. Education above the high school level may be substituted for some experience. Must be willing to work long, irregular hours and travel extensively throughout the State of Iowa. Excellent writing skills required. A valid driver’s license is required. Criminal defense investigative experience is preferred but not required. Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required. The selected candidate must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the United States.
