Position Description: 

The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) is the frontline law firm for low-income people in Los Angeles and is currently accepting applications for two full time Attorney positions. LAFLA seeks to achieve equal justice for poor and low-income people in greater Los Angeles. We change lives through direct representation, systems change, and community education.

• Active membership in the California State Bar;
• Fluency in Spanish;
• Administrative experience in immigration matters before USCIS and EOIR;
• Litigation experience in immigration court preferred, detention experience a plus;
• Experience filing admininistrative immigration applications such as U Visa, VAWA, T Visa applications; experience with VAWA Cancellation a plus.
• Manage a high volume caseload of VAWA/U Visa/T Visa/VAWA Cancellation cases for clients in detention/removal proceedings;
• Ability to work well under pressure and collaboratively;
• Ability to deal with people tactfully and effectively;
• Exempt employees shall work evenings and weekends as necessitated by job duties to meet professional duties to clients; and
• Demonstrated commitment to serving immigrant communities and survivors of violence.


• Provide direct legal services in the form of VAWA/U Visa/T Visa applications and/or VAWA Cancellation to victims of domestic violence, torture and other serious crimes who are in removal proceedings;
• Travel regularly to Adelanto and other local detention facilities to conduct intake and meet with clients;
• Develop appropriate intake systems a. participate in regular meetings with community members;
• Outreach to immigrant communities both in detention and in the community;
• Conduct trainings and outreach to community based organizations and community groups;
• Coordinate with other assistance organizations in the area by implementing partner meetings to assure appropriate and efficient coverage of services; and
• Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer attorneys and law students

Salary range: 
$56,000 to $65,757/annual DOE, excellent benefits
