Position Description: 

Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) has an opening for a staff attorney in its Family Law Project (FLP) office, located in Ann Arbor.

LSSCM is a division of the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP) which provides access to the justice system for those who need it the most through its local legal services offices, Legal Services of South Central Michigan and Farmworker Legal Services, as well several statewide advocacy programs: Michigan Poverty Law Program, the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, the Michigan Elder Justice Initiative, and the Michigan Legal Help Program. MAP has a staff of about 100 people in offices in Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Detroit, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Monroe.

The Family Law Project serves survivors of domestic violence in Washtenaw County. The FLP staff attorney will do service and impact work, primarily in family law cases where there is a history of domestic violence.

Requirements: 

Applicants should be licensed to practice law in Michigan, qualified to be admitted by waiver, or able to take the next Michigan bar exam. Exceptionally qualified May 2018 graduates will be considered. Applicants should also have a demonstrated commitment to the low income community and experience or training in handling cases involving domestic violence.

Salary range: 
Salary is from $44,000, depending on experience. MAP is a unionized program with excellent fringe benefits.
