Position Description: 

Position: Oregon Law Center (OLC) seeks a managing attorney to provide leadership and management for the three-person office located in Coos Bay, Oregon. The Coos Bay office provides legal services to low-income people living in Coos County, Curry County, and the coastal part of Douglas County in Southern Oregon. These counties have a high poverty rate and limited access to services.

Program: OLC is a legal services program committed to achieving justice for the low-income communities of Oregon by providing a full range of the highest quality civil legal services. OLC does not receive funding from the federal Legal Services Corporation. OLC operates offices located in Coos Bay, Eugene, Grants Pass, Hillsboro, McMinnville, Ontario, Portland, Salem, St. Helens, and Woodburn. OLC has a statewide litigation support unit, farmworker program, and legislative advocacy unit. OLC’s priorities are based on a client needs assessments and change from year-to-year.

Responsibilities: The attorney in this position is responsible for creating and maintaining an excellent legal aid office as defined by the ABA Standards for the Provision of Civil Legal Aid and program values statement. Attorneys in this office are expected to engage in a combination of impact litigation and service cases, with a significant emphasis on impact work in state and federal courts. An important aspect of this position is to engage in community outreach to the client community, client based organizations, and other partners. This position provides an exciting opportunity to use leadership skills to make a real difference for the low-income communities of Oregon.


Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income communities. A high degree of initiative and willingness to work collaboratively. Strong interpersonal communication skills, sense of humor and positive attitude. Excellent written and verbal advocacy skills. Ability to think creatively. Experience representing low-income clients on issues related to housing law, employment law, administrative law, family law, immigration law, or consumer law is a plus. Not less than four years of relevant experience. Management training and/or experience is valuable. Admission to Oregon Bar or willingness to take next exam. Spanish language skills preferred.
