FAMILY STABILITY PARALEGAL- SARATOGA SPRINGS OFFICE

Position -- The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York has a Paralegal position open in the Saratoga Springs office. The Paralegal will assist clients, under the supervision of an attorney, to successfully access benefits and services needed to enhance family stability.
Responsibilities — As a Family Court Advocate, duties include conducting client interviews, developing a case plan to assist the family, advocating for the client's access to services, such as public benefits, child care, etc., conducting outreach to homeless families, accompanying the client to appointments, making referrals and assisting the client in applying for and finding and retaining suitable housing. The Family Court Advocate will be expected to work closely with area service providers, such as the Department of Social Services to ensure services are provided to the family. As a Public Assistance Advocate, the paralegal will carry his/her own public assistance caseload with responsibilities as outlined above. The Paralegal will also be expected to perform tasks assigned by the Attorney such as drafting court documents and occasional legal research.
Qualifications -- Must be intelligent, hard-working, careful, reliable, have good judgment and a demonstrated commitment to the low-income community. Must be sensitive to the needs and difficulties low income and homeless families face. Must be able to write clearly and persuasively. Must have either a BA in the human services field (with a strong preference for additional relevant experience) OR four years or more relevant experience. Must be able to work well as part of a team. Must have a clean and valid NYS driver’s license and vehicle. Prior experience in housing or family court issues is a plus. Good computer skills. Spanish speaking a plus.
Salary: $26,624 -- $37,213 DOE. Excellent fringe benefits.
