Position Description: 

Community Legal Aid, Inc. (CLA), a non-profit program providing free civil legal services to low-income and elderly clients in central and western Massachusetts, is seeking an intern to assist with our Asian Outreach and Outreach Project as needed.
CLA's Asian Outreach and Advocacy Project collaborates with various community partners to address the pressing legal needs of the Asian immigrant and refugee populations in Worcester County. Recognizing the underlying challenges for many low-income and Limited English Proficient speaking individuals and families, our project's outreach and advocacy efforts are tailored towards providing culturally and linguistically responsive advocacy, community education and public awareness of the challenges facing this population.

Internship Description

Student interns will have the opportunity to perform research, assist in community-based outreach and intake activities, and participate in client interviews and research tasks. Internship activities may also include planning and implementing outreach events and assisting in the development of community outreach materials and resources. Students will also receive training in various legal areas, including government benefits, workers rights, elder law and language rights.

Requirements: 

This is a paid internship opportunity open to either a law student or undergraduate student interested in gaining experience in public interest law and community outreach. The ideal candidate must be available to commit a minimum of 10 part-time hours during the spring semester. Co-op students seeking full-time internships are encouraged to apply.

Bilingual ability is strongly preferred but not required. Preference will be given for applicants who are proficient in Vietnamese or another Southeast Asian language.
