Position Description: 

The Contra Costa County Regional Office of Bay Area Legal Aid is located in Richmond with mobile advocacy sites throughout the county to best serve clients.

Position and Responsibilities: We are seeking an experienced attorney to work primarily on behalf of tenants living in public or federally subsidized housing. The position involves the following opportunities:

• representing tenants at all stages of the Unlawful Detainer process, including trial;
• advocating for tenants before the Housing Authority and other administrative agencies;
• advocating for tenants on issues of fair housing;
• identifying systemic problems that affect our clients’ housing rights and addressing these challenges through affirmative litigation and policy work;
• conducting community outreach and training for public housing residents; and
• collaborating with the local, regional and national tenant advocacy community.


• Familiarity with housing law and at least two years of litigation experience, more than five years preferred;
• Passion for and deep understanding of working with a diverse community of low-income individuals, including immigrants, youth, and/or people with disabilities;
• Excellent communication, writing and public speaking skills;
• Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team;
• Exceptional listener and strategist who thrives in a collegial environment
• Sense of humor
• California State Bar membership in good standing
• A driver’s license and access to a car
• Bilingual ability in Spanish preferred.
