Exciting Fellowship Opportunity in Albany, NY –
LGBTQ Rights Project at LASNNY – Time is of the Essence

The Albany office of the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York is seeking to host an Equal Justice Works fellow for a new LGBTQ Rights Project. If the proposal is accepted, a talented new lawyer, committed to protecting and furthering the rights of LGBTQ people, will have the opportunity to lead an innovative project in the Capital District. It is anticipated that the new project will include outreach, advocacy and representation regarding discrimination, harassment and bullying, family law issues (such as custody, support, adoptions, advance planning, divorce, parenting agreements, survivor benefits and rights), name/gender marker changes, crime victim advocacy, police misconduct, insurance and access to health care, rural isolation and lack of services, and including the rights of LGBT youth.

To be eligible for the fellowship, candidates must graduate law school prior to the start of the fellowship (September 2018). Candidates must not have held a full-time permanent public interest attorney position previously, or participated in any other major fellowship program (except EJW AmeriCorps Fellowship).

We are seeking a candidate ASAP to participate in the application process, and collaborate in designing the project proposal. Time is of the essence.

Salary: $44,368 to $50,184 DOE. LASNNY is a unionized program with excellent health insurance and fringe benefits, generous holidays and leave time. Loan repayment assistance program and Leadership Development training available to all EJW fellows through EJW.
