Position Description: 

Lakeshore Legal Aid provides free legal assistance low income people in 44 Michigan Counties. LLA strives to both serve its clients in a holistic manner to remove barriers to moving out of poverty, and to support other social service agencies that address poverty in our communities. Our work addresses such client issues as housing, family, consumer, and public benefits law.

Position Overview:

LLA is seeking an experienced Grant Writer to join its Resource Development Department. The Grant Writer is responsible for developing and writing grant proposals and will persuasively communicate LLA’s mission and programs to current and potential funders.
Responsibilities:
• Research new local, state, and national grants and funding sources to support the organization’s work throughout Southeast Michigan.
• Write and edit new grant applications.
• Compile supporting documents, submit and track grant proposals, coordinate with staff to submit grant reapplications.
• Comply with all grant reporting as required by funders and submit reporting.
• Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting.
• Assist Director of Resource Development in fundraising activities, as appropriate.

Salary:

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and includes excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance/AD&D, short-term and long-term disability, retirement plan, vacation, and personal time.

Requirements: 

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor is preferred but not required.
• Nonprofit legal services experience is preferred but not required.
• Two to four years of documented experience in non-profit grant writing as well as supervision, administration, and/or management of grant processes.
• Ability to lead and execute the grant protocol.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, and experience with fundraising software programs a plus.
• Excellent written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, plan and problem-solve, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
• Work well in team environment and independently, and establish effective working relationships with a variety of individuals.
