Position Description: 

Equal Justice Works, Elder Justice AmeriCorps (AmeriCorps), and Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida (CLSMF) have collaborated to provide the Elder Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellowship. The Fellow will provide civil legal assistance to address the legal needs of elder abuse victims and increase access to legal services for victims of elder abuse. This program is funded by Equal Justice Works, AmeriCorps and CLSMF. CLSMF is a non-profit law firm that provides free legal assistance to eligible clients in 12 central Florida counties. CLSMF is funded by a variety of sources including the Legal Services Corporation, the Florida Bar Foundation, United Way, and private donations.

Fellow Job Description
• Provide civil legal representation with regard to elder abuse cases, including injunctions for protection, evictions, unlawful detainers, and ejectments.
• Engage in cross-training sessions and participate in Unit leader meetings to gain a functional understanding of CLSMF’s overall work.
• Provide training opportunities in elder abuse both internally and externally.
• Work with CLSMF’s Communication Department to support the AmeriCorps National Day of Service.

Fellow Compensation
The Fellow will receive annual living allowance, as well as financial support for housing, student loan repayment, and other permissible reimbursable living expenses. Additionally, Fellows receive an education award, health insurance, and other benefits. Interested applicants should contact Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida with any follow up questions

Requirements: 

Equal Justice Works and AmeriCorps Legal Fellows are subject to the National Service Criminal History Check process, including FBI fingerprinting, FBI background check, and a name-based search of the National Sex Offender Public Website. A Florida Criminal Background check will also be completed prior to the start of service.

The Fellow must:
• Must have sat for or be prepared to sit for the state bar examination in Florida
• Must consent to all requisite criminal history checks, and meet all selection criteria established by CLSMF
