Position Description: 

The Trial-Level Compliance Officer is a full-time, executive-level staff position with the State of Louisiana. Responsibilities include:

• Develop evaluation protocols to assess district compliance with Board-adopted standards and guidelines;

• Develop and implement an effective evaluation implementation plan that allows for regular assessments and ongoing monitoring of each district public defender’s office compliance of board-adopted standards and guidelines;

• Provide direct oversight of regular assessments and ongoing monitoring of defense representation;

• Make regular reports to the board on variances to board standards and guidelines with respect to each district; and

• Perform all other duties assigned by the State Public Defender.

Requirements: 

An eligible applicant must be an attorney licensed to practice law in the United States with at least three years of criminal defense experience or possess a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with at least five years of progressively responsible experience conducting organizational assessments. Applicants should have expertise in matters of performance evaluation development and implementation. If licensed as an attorney in a state other than Louisiana, the employee must become licensed as an attorney in this state within one year of being employed by the Board. An eligible applicant must also be a U.S. citizen, become a domiciliary of Louisiana who is registered to vote in Louisiana, and be available to work full-time in the state’s Baton Rouge office.
