Position Description: 

Disability Rights Advocates (DRA), a non-profit law firm advancing equal rights and opportunities for people with a wide range of disabilities, is setting precedents and challenging norms. Attorneys at DRA gain valuable experience in undertaking high-impact litigation while doing work that is meaningful and advances civil rights. With offices in California and New York, we provide legal representation in complex, system changing, class-action cases, achieving dramatic improvements for people with all types of disabilities in all areas of life: technology, health care, employment, transportation, education, disaster preparedness planning, voting, juvenile justice, and housing.

Position Overview:

DRA seeks passionate, talented, hard-working candidates to apply for collaboration on Skadden and other public interest fellowships. DRA has an established commitment to mentoring and training the best young lawyers to practice public interest law. We have sponsored more than 30 fellowships since our inception in 1993, including Skadden and other fellowships supported by generous DRA donors. Fellows at DRA get unparalleled experience and are provided immediate opportunity to participate in all aspects of public interest litigation. All past DRA fellows have gone on to successful careers, most in public interest law. Fellowship Attorney positions are full-time and report to our Directors of Litigation.

Requirements: 

• Commitment to DRA’s mission to advance equal rights and opportunity for people with all types of disabilities nationwide
• Superior legal research and writing skills
• Strong communication skills to, among other things, maintain and establish professional relationships with clients, co-counsel, and opposing counsel
• Excellent time management skills, including the ability to track and meet deadlines and work well under pressure
• Strong work ethic paired with the ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and circumstances
• Excellent academic credentials

Candidates should be either, law students who will graduate in the spring of 2018, judicial law clerks, or recent, top law school graduates who are passionate about civil rights and disability law. Fellowships begin September of 2018.
