Position Description: 

Central West Justice Center (CWJC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Community Legal Aid, seeks a temporary staff attorney to work for a two-year period on a new project designed to help victims of crime with a wide variety of civil legal matters, including domestic relations issues; humanitarian immigration relief; access to housing, benefits, school-based services, and health insurance programs; and elder abuse. The position is funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance to provide holistic services to victims of crime. The attorney will be based in Springfield or Northampton. In addition to representing individual clients, the attorney will engage in community outreach and education, and will work closely with community partners. Some grant-reporting activities are required.


QUALIFICATIONS: Admission to Mass. Bar, or eligible to sit for next Mass. Bar examination, or entitled to practice under a Mass. practice rule. Prior experience in poverty law strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities strongly preferred. Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a collaborative setting are important.
