Position Description: 

Greater Boston Legal Services seeks an attorney for a long-term temporary position (two years) to work jointly in the program’s employment and housing law units. The attorney will represent primarily Spanish speaking clients and client groups such as tenant organizations and workers centers in the Chelsea and East Boston areas. The position will use a community lawyering approach to advocacy that involves working closely with worker centers and other community based organizations to help them combat wage theft and displacement. In addition to maintenance of an individual caseload of wage and hour cases and eviction defense cases, the position will include the creative use of other advocacy tools such as impact litigation, administrative advocacy on the state and municipal levels, potential affirmative and defensive legislative campaigns, and support for the preservation of affordable housing. This position requires regular attendance at evening meetings to accommodate workers’ schedules. The successful candidate must be able to work with diverse coalitions.

Requirements: 

This position is for an attorney with at least one year of legal experience in employment or housing law. In addition, civil legal aid or other advocacy on behalf of workers and tenants, litigation experience, and a strong and demonstrated commitment to worker rights, civil/human rights, community lawyering is also required. The attorney must have strong legal writing and research skills and the ability to work well with a diverse coalition. Proficiency in spoken and written Spanish is required.
