Position Description: 

Community Legal Aid, Inc. (CLA), the non-profit organization providing free civil legal services to low-income and elderly clients in western and central Massachusetts, seeks a full-time housing attorney for its Springfield office. The attorney will work on cases involving eviction defense, access to rent subsidy programs, and other housing-related matters. A significant portion of the attorney’s work will be dedicated to assisting individuals who are at least 60 years old with funding from several Administration on Aging grants. The attorney will also participate in a Housing Court lawyer for the day program. The attorney will have significant client contact, and will assume an active caseload while continuing to accept new cases. The attorney will engage in community outreach and education, and will work closely with community partners including elder service agencies. Some grant-writing and grant-reporting required.


QUALIFICATIONS: Admission to Massachusetts Bar, or eligible to sit for next Massachusetts Bar examination, or entitled to practice under a Massachusetts practice rule. Experience in landlord-tenant law strongly preferred, as is fluency in Spanish. Access to reliable transportation and willingness to conduct home visits on occasion is required.
