Mission and Description of Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights
Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area (Lawyers’ Committee) was founded in 1968 and works to advance the legal rights of communities of color, low-income people, immigrants, and refugees. Assisted by hundreds of pro bono attorneys, Lawyers’ Committee provides free legal assistance and representation in civil legal matters through direct services, impact litigation, policy advocacy, and public education. Position Summary
The Executive Director provides the vision to advance the mission of the non-profit law firm and oversees its overall operations. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is primarily responsible for providing leadership in setting the organization’s civil rights agenda, fiscal management and achieving financial objectives, cultivating and maintaining external relations with a broad range of stakeholders, and working collaboratively with staff and the Board. The Executive Director is frequently called upon as a spokesperson, including media appearances, conference presentations, community panels, and other events.


Overview of Requirements
 Demonstrated commitment to racial justice and civil rights law.
 Experience with non-profit legal services and/or impact litigation.
 Management experience.
 Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
 Impeccable integrity, judgment, and discretion.
 Licensed to practice law in California.
