DIRECTOR, MONTANA OFFICE OF PUBLIC DEFENDER
The Montana Public Defender Advisory Commission is seeking candidates for nomination to the Department of Administration for a newly created director position. It is looking for an experienced attorney with a strong background and diverse expertise in public defense issues and policies to be the Director of the Office of State Public Defender (OPD). The Director will have strong administrative skills to manage, administer and execute public defense efforts that provide fiscally responsible, innovative and quality representation to the indigent.
The Director position is created by newly enacted legislation, revising Montana’s public defender system. The Director is hired by the Director of the Department of Administration. The Public Defender Advisory Commission will submit a list of nominees to the Director of the Department of Administration for consideration, but the Director may hire someone who is not included on the list. The Department of Administration intends to post the position on the state careers website, and individuals may choose to apply directly to that posting.
This is a full-time experienced staff attorney position in the Grand Rapids office of LAWM. Requires 2-5 years of prior legal aid work or equivalent experience in family law, housing and consumer law, or public benefits.
