Hotline Attorneys for MI Health Link Ombudsman -- Lakeshore Legal Aid’s Counsel and Advocacy Law Line — Southfield, Michigan

Lakeshore Legal Aid’s Counsel and Advocacy Law Line, a legal aid hotline covering 44 counties in Michigan, is currently seeking an attorney to assist with the MI Health Link Ombudsman advocacy hotline for Michigan’s Medicare and Medicaid managed care demonstration project. The position offers an excellent learning experience with diverse legal subject matters, a unique working environment, rewarding and meaningful work. The office is in Southfield, Michigan and the hotline is staffed 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. This is a full time grant funded position with benefits.

The candidate will help resolve issues faced by adults over 65 and individuals with disabilities by advocating for clients with health plans and federal and state agency representatives to address barriers to care.

Experience in public benefits law preferred. Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare and health plan systems ideal. The candidate will have a demonstrated passion and commitment to public interest law. The candidate will have strong research and organizational skills, the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in-writing, and well-developed analytical and computer skills. The candidate will have the ability to handle a high call volume, ability to problem-solve, and patience/sensitivity to handle people in crisis.
