Position Description: 

Organization: Bay Area Legal Aid's (BayLegal) mission is to provide high quality legal assistance regardless of a client's location, language, or disability. BayLegal is the largest provider of free civil legal services to low-income residents of the San Francisco Bay Area, with regional offices in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties. BayLegal's 100+ staff members provide wraparound legal services in housing preservation, domestic violence and sexual assault prevention, economic security, consumer protection, and healthcare access.
Position and Responsibilities: BayLegal is seeking an experienced and energetic Grants Officer. As a member of BayLegal's Development Team, the Grants Officer will:
• Maintain a portfolio of grants and contracts, including complex federal, state and local cost reimbursable grants, and foundation and corporate grants. This work includes: ensuring programmatic compliance, researching funding prospects, working with staff and collaborative partners to develop and monitor projects, preparing and submitting applications for new and renewal funding, processing contracts, coordinating and attending site visits with funders, preparing required reports, and meeting any additional funder requirements
• Establish, maintain, and build good relationships with funder contacts
• Work closely with BayLegal's Finance Department to develop grant budgets, ensure timely submission of invoices, monitor grant spending, and ensure timely and complete communication on all grant related issues
• Maintain grants and contracts tracking system, records, files, and databases (Salesforce)
• Assist the Development Director and Executive Director with projects related to the strategic development of institutional funding support

Requirements: 

The Successful Candidate:
• Has a minimum of three (3) years of experience prospecting, submitting grant applications, and managing a portfolio of grants, including government (federal, state and/or local) cost reimbursement grants or contracts.
• Is passionate about BayLegal's mission and possesses an ability to understand and enthusiastically articulate the goals and vision of a multi-disciplined poverty law firm
• Possesses a strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision
• Exhibits excellent writing, editing, and proof reading skills and is very detail-oriented
• Demonstrates the ability to be entrusted with sensitive information and conduct daily activities with the utmost professionalism and integrity
• Exhibits excellent verbal communication skills
• Is a creative problem solver
• Remains calm under pressure and works well as a dedicated member of a dynamic team
• Is experienced using fundraising software and understands the value of a data-driven fundraising process. Experience with Salesforce is preferred
• Demonstrates strong relationship building and management skills
