Call for Fellowship Applicants

The Institute for Innovation in Prosecution (IIP), a partnership between National Network for Safe Communities (NNSC) at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and the District Attorney of New York County, is seeking a fellow. The IIP is a path-breaking project, established in 2015, which will spur and support the development of the next generation of ideas and thought leaders in the field of prosecution. The Institute for Innovation in Prosecution will provide a forum to explore issues confronting prosecutors. In this time of rapid and broad-based change in our nation’s criminal justice policies, we believe it is critically important that elected prosecutors, who are directly accountable to the American public, exercise strong leadership in guiding and responding to these calls for change. By providing this national forum, the IIP will elevate the role and voice of prosecutors in addressing these critical national issues; advance national standards of excellence; promote intelligence-driven prosecution; reduce unnecessary confinement; support effective crime reduction efforts, and enhance the public's trust in the criminal justice system. To achieve its goals, the IIP will serve as a brick-and-mortar “think tank” for prosecutors, academics and criminal justice leaders eager to drive innovation and develop new responses to the current challenges facing the American criminal justice system.

The Institute for Innovation in Prosecution seeks to sponsor candidates for Equal Justice Fellowships to begin in Fall 2017. The Institute for Innovation in Prosecution is looking for candidates with a commitment to public service and criminal justice reform.

Fellows will have the opportunity to work with the IIP and NNSC teams to offer strategic- guidance on the research and development of innovative and effective policies and practices for prosecutors. The fellow will assist in identifying, designing and implementing action research partnerships. They will also work to identify particular substantive issues and problems central to prosecution and the role of the prosecutor. Once selected, candidates will work closely with IIP and NNSC staff to fully develop their project proposals.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter, resume, writing sample, list of three references and a 1-2 page preliminary project proposal related to the work of the Institute for Innovation in Prosecution to [email protected]. Applications must be submitted to:
