BACKGROUND
Legal Aid of North Carolina is seeking a staff attorney to work in its Greensboro office, which provides free legal assistance in civil matters to low-income residents of Davidson, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham and Rowan counties. The attorney’s primary area of practice will be domestic violence. This is a full-time, temporary position that is dependent on the availability of grant funds. Legal Aid of N.C. is a statewide, 501(c)(3) nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income North Carolinians.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Primary area of practice will be representing victims of domestic violence. Duties include, but are not limited to, providing legal representation and advice to low-income clients, screening and interviewing clients, representing eligible clients in a variety of legal matters, providing outreach and legal education, and other responsibilities that may be assigned.
North Carolina Bar license. The ability to communicate effectively with government officials, adversaries and clients. A commitment to assisting low-income people. Other skills sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the job. Spanish-speaking ability a plus. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience working with low-income people.
