Position Description: 

CRLA is seeking applicants to fill a Regular, Full-Time, Director of Litigation, Advocacy and Training position. This position is available immediately and applicants will be considered until the position is filled.
Duties include statewide planning development and coordination of advocacy efforts through lead-counseling, and co-counseling of major litigation, back-up of individual advocates and offices, training and coordination of task forces or work groups. The DLAT should have significant experience in a wide range of advocacy and managerial skills including:

- Evaluation of professional staff advocacy efforts
- Litigation
- Negotiation
- Legislative and administrative advocacy
- Community education
- Development and implementation of staff training
- Policy development and enforcement

The DLAT will carry an active caseload. The DLAT will be assigned by the Executive Director or Deputy Director to cover substantive legal areas and/or specific advocacy functions based upon a combined assessment of client need, program priorities, and the skills and strengths of the particular DLAT. Assignments will be reviewed and are subject to adjustment on an ongoing basis. In addition, the DLAT is expected to assist the Deputy Director in the development and enforcement of all legal work related policies and procedures in appropriate cases making disciplinary decisions and taking disciplinary action.

The DLAT shall also be responsible for:
• Litigating impact cases as a lead counsel or co-counsel
• Establishing and enforcing program policies
• Leading and coordinating one or more task forces or work groups
• Identifying advocacy and other skills/training needed for attorneys
• Exercising independent judgment in resolving client needs
• Approving or denying requests for legal services
• Training and directing CRLA staff members (as assigned) in carrying out CRLA policies and procedures
• Performing other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director, Deputy Director or their designee

The DLAT shall coordinate his/her responsibilities with other DLATs.

SUPERVISOR: Executive Director, Deputy Director or their designee

Maintains a close working relationship with Directing Attorneys, Project Directors, support staff, and with all other senior management staff.

SUBSTANTIVE LEGAL EXPERIENCE: Health, Public Benefits, Community Development/Non-Profit.

Requirements: 

• Minimum of eight years of experience in legal services and/or other related legal work.
• Substantial experience in the skills described in the General Responsibilities section above.
• Thorough knowledge of California State Law, APA and State administrative and legislative systems
preferred.
