A New Era of Advocacy: Substantive Law Conference and Litigation and Advocacy Directors ConferenceJuly 21-24, 2010---Chicago, ILBlending Expertise -- Sharing KnowledgeTwo Conferences for a Changing WorldIn July 2010, we will be hosting concurrently the Substantive Law and Litigation and Advocacy Directors Conferences. We are motivated by this moment in time to bring together these two distinct conferences in order to facilitate dialogue between advocates and foster the exchange of information and knowledge as it relates to the work of civil legal aid. Join us for this important collaboration at this extraordinary time of new leaders, new government and new economic challenges.
2010 Litigation and Advocacy Directors ConferenceThe Litigation and Advocacy Directors Conference is a gathering of experienced advocacy directors, senior litigators, policy analysts and cutting-edge managing attorneys - the next generation of litigation and advocacy directors - provides a not-to-be-missed opportunity to 1) learn and share cutting-edge advocacy strategies, (2) explore major trends affecting low income people, and (3) discuss effective planning and management of litigation and advocacy. The conference is designed for people who have primary responsibility for setting the advocacy agenda and supervising its implementation for their civil legal services or civil rights organization. In many programs, this will be the director of litigation or director of advocacy. In some, it may be a senior or managing attorney, policy analyst or the executive director. In organizations where the role is shared, it may be appropriate for more than one person to attend. The conference will address issues of relevance for both LSC-funded and non-LSC funded programs and civil rights organizations, as well as other providers who represent low-income people or deal with their issues. The conference will also focus on networking and building advocacy communities at the national and regional levels and include reaching out to community-based organizations and civil rights groups. Participants will gain new perspectives, enhance skills and renew energy for aggressive representation of low-income clients.
2010 Substantive Law ConferenceThe Substantive Law Conference is for advocates from across the country seeking training on the substantive law fundamentals essential to quality representation of low-income people and communities. The conference is designed for less experienced practitioners and practitioners seeking a refresher on the fundamentals including relatively new advocates (those with approximately five or fewer years of experience), those changing specialties and generalists. Participants with greater levels of experience in their current practice areas, however, have also found the Substantive Law Conference an engaging, informative and valuable learning experience. Please visit the Substantive Law conference web page for details about this conference.
