Civil Track – Ensuring Justice and Healthy Communities for Young People in Poverty
Of the 73 million children living in the United States, 28.4 million or a staggering 39 percent, live in low-income families. Of these children, a recent study by the National Center for Children in Poverty documents a growing number of children who live not just below the poverty line but in extreme poverty – 12.8 million, or 18 percent of American kids. This year’s civil track will explore a wide variety of issues related to ensuring justice for young people in poverty from the perspectives of providers, advocates and client communities. The track will also consider the strategies involved in the “Fair Health” movement and the recommendations of the Dellums Commission regarding policy changes aimed at providing young men of color with fair and equal opportunities to achieve success in life.
