Use local personal stories for greater impact

Date November 28, 2005

No matter where people are from, it’s the stories of their friends, neighbors and fellow citizens that have the greatest impact on them. By promoting personal stories to the media, you will help the general public see the need for the organization and programs you represent. Here are a few items to consider when proposing a personal story to the news media:

• Use a story that represents a wider problem

• Find an individual or family that will be open about their situation and the circumstances that got them there

• Offer a proposed solution to the problem being suffered

• Elaborate on how your organization is helping the individual(s)
