The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) is under
attack by the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS). The
proposed changes by the OTS to the CRA are far
reaching. Quick action is needed before January
24, 2004 to block this additional attempt to further
weaken the CRA. The CRA has been instrumental in
helping to increase home, small business, and
community development lending in underserved
and lower income communities. If the OTS
proposal succeeds, the result will be far less capital
for affordable housing, charter schools, small
business development, daycare centers, health
clinics and community economic development.
The easiest way for you and your friends to submit
your comments is by going to http://www.ncrc.org/
letters/ots_letter.php . Also you can send your e-
mails in opposition to the proposed changes to:
regs.comments@ots.treas.gov and include the OTS
docket numbers (No. 2004-53 & 2004-54) in the
subject line. To insure an accurate count, please
copy the National Community Reinvestment
Coalition (NCRC) as well, either by fax to (202)628
-9800, or emailing to membership@ncrc.org.
Please visit www.ncrc.org for further information or
call NCRC at 202-628-8866.
