The NLADA Board of Directors formulates policy for, and administers, the business and affairs of the Association. Additionally, NLADA's board provides oversight for the financial stability of the organization and assists in the attainment of the Association's mission and governance. The board includes at least 26 elected and appointed directors, who represent program members, individual members, client members, Client Policy Group members, Civil Policy Group members, defender organization members and Defender Policy Group members.

ConferenceThe Conference Committee's primary responsibility includes overseeing the planning of NLADA's Annual Conference. This includes working with key staff to determine the design, scope, theme, and focus of the conference; selecting training proposals for presentation at the conference; assisting staff in planning all conference activities, including setting conference policy and registration fee schedule; involvement in the NLADA awards process, including selection of winners; assisting staff with regular program evaluation, including suggestions for following years; selecting, with key staff, keynote and guest speakers; presenting future site selection recommendations to the board.

ExecutiveThe Executive Committee consists of the chairperson, the past chair person, the vice chairpersons, the president/CEO, the treasurer, one director from each of the Civil, Defender and Client Policy Groups and one director appointed by the board of directors. Between full board meetings, the Executive Committee may exercise the authority of the board, with the exception of adopting the annual budget of the Association and hiring or firing the president and CEO.

FinanceThe Finance Committee works in conjunction with the president and CEO to provide for and ensure financial success, accountability and stability of the organization. The committee plays a vital role and assists the governing body in its efforts to ensure financial integrity and maintain public confidence and support. The committee is responsible for overseeing and recommending policies that protect the Association's assets and allocates resources properly. Subject to board approval, the Finance Committee determines annual budgets, reserve funds and investment policies and strategies for the Association.

Leadership DevelopmentThe Leadership Development Committee's mission is to groom and cultivate leadership skills within the board of directors and policy groups, to promote retention of skilled leaders on the board of directors and policy groups and to ensure smooth transitions of authority to succeeding administrations. In addition, the committee develops job descriptions for board members and officers of the Association, and acts as the qualifying committee for nominees of directors, officers and policy group members of the Association. The Leadership Development Committee consists of the chairperson, the past chairperson, the president/CEO, one member appointed from each of the Civil, Defender and Client Policy groups and one elected director.

Member Services and DevelopmentThe NLADA Member Services and Development Committee is appointed by the board of directors and includes at least two directors of the Association. The committee makes recommendations to the board regarding membership in the Association, including approval of program membership applications, program dues waivers, setting membership dues and classifications of membership. The committee promotes NLADA membership to nonmembers, assists with membership retention efforts and reviews and recommends new member services programs. The committee also reviews and makes recommendations regarding the Association's efforts to expand its financial support from a broad range of donors.

PersonnelThe Personnel Committee works in conjunction with the president and CEO and assists the Association in its effort to identify, attract and retain staff necessary to achieve the organization's mission and goals.
