| Position Description: |
|
CCRC South is a State of Florida defender agency that represents indigent death row inmates in state postconviction cases and in federal habeas corpus litigation. Cases are assigned within CCRC-S in a team concept. Each team consists of an experienced lead attorney, a second chair attorney and a member of the in-house investigative staff. Each case is assigned a unique team. CCRC-S cases originate in the South Florida area (the 11th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 19th and 20th Judicial Circuits), but conflict case appointments may arise from elsewhere in Florida. The CCRC-S investigator is responsible for conducting investigations for use in postconviction and federal habeas corpus proceedings. Investigation includes both guilt/innocence and penalty phase/mitigation issues. The investigation process involves substantial travel in Florida and elsewhere. Work is performed under the supervision of the attorney staff and is reviewed through reports and personal conferences for achievement of desired results. Duties of the investigator include but are not limited to: developing evidentiary leads, interviewing witnesses and taking witness statements, evaluating and preserving evidence from prior investigations and reports including the cataloging of public records and documents obtained during the discovery process, testifying in court, serving subpoenas, and related work as required. |

| Requirements: |
|
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, and two years of experience as an investigator or in a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. A background in psychology, social work, or experience as a mitigation specialist will be of special assistant to the applicant. |
