What is the National Alliance of Indigent Defense Educators (NAIDE)?The NAIDE is intended for any indigent defense system staff member who has some responsibility (whether officially part of a job description or informally as a result “just the way things are”) for training others. This section welcomes membership from directors of organization-wide training programs to supervisors or staff attorneys developing a one-time training for attorneys, professional staff, or administrative/support staff. The NAIDE provides a forum for defender trainers and professionals with related responsibilities to keep abreast of the latest legal developments, adult learning techniques, and breakthroughs in web-based or other distance-learning technologies. This section encourages mutual support and networking, and encourages life-long learning among defender practitioners. NAIDE also strives to establish and define training best practices and standards for indigent defense delivery systems. To that end, this section drafted NLADA's Training and Development Standards, which were adopted by NLADA’s board of directors in 1997.
NAIDE's premier training opportunities include NLADA’s Train the Trainers Conference and programs
offered at NLADA’s Annual Conference and through the National Defender Leadership Institute.
NAIDE also works with the American Council of Chief Defenders (“ACCD”), a section of NLADA, to advise and to
assist the chief defenders with their training needs and policy issues. An active on-line listserv is available for program and
individual requests for assistance, sharing ideas and tips and staying informed.
Upcoming TrainingsThere are no upcoming events at this time. Please check back regularly to find out about upcoming defender training opportunities.
