  • Adam Walsh Act - The Office of the Ohio Public Public Defender has led the way in fighting adoption of state and litigating its implementation. Their website offers a wealth of information about the Act, its devastating effects on state criminal justice systems and access to a vast library of pleadings and legislative materials

  • Terrorism Measures - including the Bush plan for military tribunals, and DOJ's rule allowing eavesdropping on attorney-client communications

  • Innocence Protection Act - DNA testing plus funding and standards for competent counsel in state capital cases

  • Student Loan Assistance - Amending federal student loan programs to help lawyers who choose a career in indigent defense or prosecution

  • Death Penalty Moratorium

  • Drug Treatment Grants to Prosecutors - a new federal grant program for local prosecutors to run drug treatment programs. After NLADA strongly objected, it was deleted before the bill was sent to the President -- but it may be back in 2003.
