NLADA operates as a clearinghouse for defenders to exchange information about trends and developments in state legislation affecting indigent defense, and periodically provides training on the latest state legislative trends and legislative advocacy skills. Legislative coordinators around the states furnish information to NLADA about developments in their states, and facilitate the flow of useful information from NLADA to defenders in the state.
