In celebrating our Centennial we are proud to reflect upon the years we have working with the U.S. Department of Justice to advance equal justice for all. In particular we have work on a variety of local, state and national projects to improve the quality of indigent defense. Here is a sample of some of the projects the Defender Legal Services have worked on in partnership with the Department of Justice and other national players:

For an historical perspective on the prior Department of Justice's National Symposia on Indigent Defense please see these final reports:

  • National Symposium on Indigent Defense 1999: Improving Criminal Justice Systems Through Expanded Strategies and Innovative Collaborations. Read Final Report.

  • National Symposium on Indigent Defense 2000: Redefining Leadership for Equal Justice. Read Final Report.

  • Criminal Courts Technical Assistance Project - description of services and materials available to indigent defense programs through this technical assistance consortium of which NLADA is a founding member.

For an historical perspective on managing defender workloads please see other DOJ resources related to indigent defense
