Indigent Defense | Criminal Justice

In a first-of-its-kind project on Indigent Defense, NLADA and the Open Society Institute asked the research firm of Belden Russonello & Stewart to investigate public opinions about due process and the role of lawyers who represent indigent criminal defendants. The project's goal is to begin to assemble the elements of a national message for educating the public about the importance of indigent defense in the criminal justice system.

Many of your colleagues are already relying on this useful information as they speak to community groups, lawmakers, bar leaders and others whom they seek to inform about indigent defense in their efforts to build greater public commitment to provide sufficient resources for public defenders and court appointed lawyers in their local jurisdictions.
