Executive Committee


The Executive Committee serves as a steering committee for the ACCD. Committee members interact with other criminal justice professionals, advise staff on ACCD meeting and training agendas and otherwise represent the ACCD in between meetings. The Committee is representative of each geographical region and program type, with elected co-chairs serving staggered two-year terms; members are appointed yearly by the co-chairs.

Chief Support Committee


The “Chief Support Committee” will work to provide tools, strategies, mutual support, training and information to chief defenders. Committee activities include, but are not limited to: member recruitment and outreach; training & support for defender system leaders; and promoting the inclusion of assigned counsel in the indigent defense community on an equal basis with public defender agencies.

National Voice Committee


The “National Voice Committee” will work to speak as a national voice for public defense. Committee activities include, but are not limited to: developing a communications strategy to reach media, policy-makers, community leaders, etc.; and developing a legislative strategy to impact Federal and state advocacy efforts.

Best Practices Committee


The “Best Practices in Leadership and Management Committee” will work to promote best practices in the leadership, management, and administration of justice. Committee activities include, but are not limited to: identifying issues on which to develop and issue policy statements, ethics opinions, principles of representation, best practices, competencies & standards (e.g. indigent defense systems, diversity, juvenile justice, technology, etc.).
