House LSC Oversight Hearing Re-Plows Old GroundErlenborn, Ross, Meese and Boehm Testify Before SubcommitteeOn February 28 the Commercial and Administrative Law Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee held an oversight hearing on the Legal Services Corporation. The hearing, chaired by subcommittee chair Rep. Bob Barr (R-GA) was called to "review the compliance with congressionally mandated restrictions by those who have received LSC grants and look at the role of the board of directors in monitoring and overseeing the activities of the Corporation." Those testifying before the subcommittee were: Edwin Meese III- Chairman, Center for Legal and Judicial Studies, Heritage Foundation; John N. Erlenborn- President, Legal Services Corporation; Kenneth F. Boehm- Chairman, National Legal and Policy Center; and L. Jonathan Ross- Chairman, American Bar Association Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defendants. Sharon Hughes, Executive Vice President of the National Council of Agricultural Employers, did not testify but submitted a written statement at the hearing.
